The phenomenon of Mother's Day goes well back to ancient Greek times, and really only in the past 100 years have we celebrated here in the United States (in Mexico it's celebrated on May 10).
I heard a radio commercial the other day extolling listeners not to "get mom a card this year; get her something she really wants.
