The Rev. Zedar Broadous of Pacoima was 16 years old when the Watts riots exploded in South Los Angeles at the height of the civil rights movement five decades ago.
His father, the late Rev. Hillery T. Broadous -- who founded Calvary Baptist Church of Pacoima with his wife Rosa in 1955 -- joined other clergy and community activists to quell anger on the streets of the northeast San Fernando Valley and to prevent the unrest from spreading.
