These 10 artists are living in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to paint what they see

Dappled sunlight falling through the oak canopy at Crystal Lake Recreation Area altered what appeared on the canvas of plein-air painter Lisa Ann Mahony. Green leaves were made darker, then lighter, as clouds intermittently crisscrossed the sun.

Mahony, 51, manipulated brush, paint and hand-held palette dexterously.
