Assistant City Manager Steve Mermell takes over as Pasadena's interim leader next week following the departure of his boss, Michael Beck, on Sunday.
Mermell has worked in Pasadena for 27 years, with the last seven as one of Beck's two assistant city managers.
"I'm excited," Mermell said shortly after his selection.
