Strong, damaging and cold winds from the north could cause downed trees and power lines in Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino counties Sunday and Monday nights while elevated surf is anticipated for local beaches through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The wind event could reach gusts of up to 60 miles an hour and cause widespread damage across the Antelope Valley, the mountains of Los Angeles County including the Santa Monica Mountains, the Santa Clarita Valley and the western portions of the interior valleys of Ventura County near Lake Casitas, said David Sweet, meteorologist with the National Weather Service-Oxnard office.
